Q: How do you envision the future of the creative industry?

Kaan: Since the 18th century, the Industrial Revolution has profoundly changed our lives and society, leading to ongoing adaptations by humanity. As designers focusing on retail and hospitality projects, we're integral to this urbanisation process, serving the well-being of our society, which is paramount to me. With recent advancements in the AI industry introducing new tools into our lives, I refer to it as a "New Industrial Revolution." I believe it will prompt a swift adaptation by humanity, fostering creativity as people express themselves through these innovative gadgets.

Q: What fuels your creativity?

Kaan: Since my childhood, I've drawn inspiration from nature, often collecting samples from my surroundings and incorporating them into my drawings at home. This early practice of making freehand sketches laid the foundation for my ongoing artistic pursuits. Even now, I maintain this habit as a part of my daily life. Observing nature's constant adaptation and evolution in response to its surroundings brings me immense joy and enriches my appreciation for life.

Q: What is your favourite part of the creative process?

Kaan: When contemplating creativity, particularly within design, there's a common assumption that it's primarily confined to the conceptual stage. However, as a technical designer, I've come to appreciate that much of our creativity flourishes during the manufacturing phase. It's in this realm, amidst the challenges and intricacies of bringing designs to life, that we truly learn and innovate. As we progress to the prototyping stage, collaboration with manufacturers becomes essential. This collaborative process demands a unique blend of skills—fusing creativity with practicality to drive innovation. Personally, I find immense fulfilment in this dynamic and hands-on approach to design.

Q: Everyone's career path is individual. What led you to become a technical designer ?

Kaan: After I started to study interior architecture, I began thinking more and more about construction methods. This shift transformed me into a more technical thinker rather than purely conceptual. While my focus initially centred on interior design elements like fixtures and decorations, I found myself drawn to understanding the manufacturing processes behind buildings. Charles Eames' works became a source of inspiration, particularly his quote, "The details are not the details. They make the design," which has become the cornerstone of my career.

Working with colleagues from diverse backgrounds can be challenging, but it's also an opportunity for personal growth and a deeper understanding of different perspectives, enhancing not only our design abilities but also our individual growth.
